VIDEO: 1958 - Global Warming - It's NOT newly known

Nearly half a century before Al Gore's Inconvenient Truth, this film was made. But what does it reveal? That our scientists have known for over two generations about this danger, but our politicians and citizenry have chosen to ignore the dangerous implications of this fact until it really is too late to avoid the preventable consequences."

"A Chemical Reaction, is a documentary movie scheduled for release in 2009 that tells the story of one of the most powerful and effective community initiatives in the history of North America. It started with one lone voice in 1984. Dr. June Irwin, a dermatologist, noticed a connection between her patients’ health conditions and their exposure to chemical pesticides and herbicides. With relentless persistence she brought her concerns to town meetings to warn her fellow citizens that the chemicals they were putting on their lawns posed severe health risks and had unknown side effects on the environment."

VIDEO: Food Scarcity and Climate Change

Summary:
"Scientists calculate that temperatures will keep rising for the next 50 years, no matter how drastically we cut greenhouse gas emissions. Open Society Fellow Mark Hertsgaard and Sara Scherr, founder of Ecoagriculture Partners, discuss the implications of this somber reality for food production and global hunger.
The panelists assess the severity of the problem, which is worsened by widespread soil erosion and dwindling rainfall in crop-growing regions. They also identify cause for hope. New farming techniques can boost crop yields while enabling plants to store carbon.
The event is moderated by Ross Gelbspan, author of two acclaimed books on climate change: Boiling Point and The Heat is On."

VIDEO: 20 Hearing-Impaired Dancers Create an Amazing Visual Spectacle

The intricately choreographed Thousand-Hand Guan Yin dance conveys a beautiful message of compassion:
“As long as you are kind and there is love in your heart
A thousand hands will naturally come to your aid.
As long as you are kind and there is love in your heart
You will reach out with a thousand hands to help others.”
While I love the message behind this mesmerizing dance, what’s more extraordinary is that all 20 dancers are hearing impaired. With the help of trainers posted along the edge of the stage, the China Disabled People’s Performing Art Troupe created a piece that is both moving and entrancing.
So many levels of beautiful.
Happy Friday Everyone!!

From PBS: Frontline:
"On the outskirts of Ghana's biggest city sits a smoldering wasteland, a slum carved into the banks of the Korle Lagoon, one of the most polluted bodies of water on earth. The locals call it Sodom and Gomorrah.
Correspondent Peter Klein and a group of graduate journalism students from the University of British Columbia have come here as part of a global investigation -- to track a shadowy industry that's causing big problems here and around the world..."
